Glucuronidation is a major hepatic detoxification pathway for endogenous and exogenous compounds, resulting in the intracellular formation of polar metabolites that require specialized transporters for elimination. Multidrug resistance proteins (MRPs) are expressed in the liver and can transport glucuronosyl-conjugates.
