Les essaims d’especes —groupes monophyletiques d’especes endemiques diversifiees— constituent des cas emblematiques pour l’etude de la diversification (e. G. Les Cichlidae d’Afrique de l’Est). Deux principaux processus evolutifs a l’origine des essaims d’especes ont ete proposes, incluant la radiation adaptative (speciation ecologique rapide) et la radiation non-adaptative (‘mutation-order speciation’, plus lente).
