A prospectively randomized trial in advanced gastric and pancreatic carcinoma compared multi-drug chemotherapy, with and without radiotherapy to the local lesion, in terms of median survival and toxicity. Of 29 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, 14 were randomized to receive 5-FU and Methyl-CCNU, and 15 to receive 5-FU and local radiotherapy to a dose of 4600 rad, and then Methyl-CCNU.
