A cDNA clone containing a 2,150-bp insert was isolated from a bovine lung lambdagt10 cDNA library by cross-species hybridization using a DNA probe generated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) employing a human cDNA that encodes mucin core 2 beta6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase (hC2TF) as the template. The bovine cDNA (bcDNA) insert was devoid of 220 bp of the 5' portion of the C2TF open reading frame (ORF), as predicted from the human counterpart. Southern blotting analysis suggested that the…

Mucin biosynthesis: molecular cloning and expression of mouse mucus-type core 2 beta1,6 N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase.
TLDR
Antibodies generated against mC2GnT-M identified this enzyme in the goblet cells and other mucus cells/glands, which supports the important role of this enzymes in the protective functions of secreted mucins.
Mucin biosynthesis: bovine C2GnT-M gene, tissue-specific expression, and herpes virus-4 homologue.
TLDR
The results suggest that BHV-4 acquired its C2GnT-M gene from the bovine gene, and the mechanism of the viral acquisition and the roles of the C2gnT -M gene in the survival and pathogenesis of this virus remain to be elucidated.
Expression of Core 2 β-1,6-N-Acetylglucosaminyltransferase in a Human Pancreatic Cancer Cell Line Results in Altered Expression of MUC1 Tumor-associated Epitopes*
TLDR
The stable transfection of a human pancreatic adenocarcinoma cell line with the cDNA for mucin core 2 GlcNAc-transferase (C2GnT), which creates the core 2 β-1,6 branch in mucin-type glycans, suggests that C2GNT could play a regulatory role in the expression of certain tumor-associated epitopes.
Identification of Disulfide Bonds among the Nine Core 2 N-Acetylglucosaminyltransferase-M Cysteines Conserved in the Mucin β6-N-Acetylglucosaminyltransferase Family*
TLDR
Molecular modeling using disulfide bond assignments and the fold recognition/threading method to search the Protein Data Bank found a match with aspartate aminotransferase structure, different from the two major protein folds proposed for glycosyltransferases.
Mucin biosynthesis: upregulation of core 2 beta 1,6 N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase by retinoic acid and Th2 cytokines in a human airway epithelial cell line.
TLDR
The results suggest that IL-4/13 T helper 2 cytokines and RA can alter the activity of enzymes that synthesize branching mucin glycan beta1,6-branched structures in airway epithelial cells, potentially leading to altered mucin carbohydrate structure and properties.
Biosynthesis and function of β 1,6 branched mucin-type glycans
The contribution of carbohydrate structure to biomolecular, cellular, and organismal function is well-established, but has not yet received the attention it deserves, perhaps due to the complexity of
Core 2 β6-N- Acetylglucosaminyltransferase-I and -III
TLDR
Poly-N-acetyllactosaminyl chain can be extended from the GlcNAcβ1,6- linkage synthesized in core 2, and can be further modified by α3 fucosyltransferase, forming sialyl Lex termini.

Expression of the developmental I antigen by a cloned human cDNA encoding a member of a beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase gene family.
TLDR
The cDNA cloning and expression of this branching enzyme represents a member of a beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase gene family of which expression is controlled by developmental programs, and predicts a protein with type II membrane topology as has been found for all other mammalian glycosyltransferases cloned to date.
α1 → 3‐Galactosyltransferase: the use of recombinant enzyme for the synthesis of α‐galactosylated glycoconjugates
TLDR
The results demonstrate that catalysis by recombinant α1 3-galactosyltransferase can be used to obtain preparative quantities of various α1 2-galACTosylated glycoconjugates and enzymatic synthesis using the recombinant enzyme is an effective alternative to the chemical synthesis of these biologically relevant compounds.
Genomic organization of core 2 and I branching beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferases. Implication for evolution of the beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase gene family.
TLDR
The results strongly suggest that the common ancestral gene was first duplicated and then each duplicated gene evolved into the C2GnT or IGnT gene by intron insertion and divergence following the duplication.
Expression cloning of a cDNA encoding UDP-GlcNAc:Gal beta 1-3-GalNAc-R (GlcNAc to GalNAc) beta 1-6GlcNAc transferase by gene transfer into CHO cells expressing polyoma large tumor antigen.

TLDR
It is demonstrated unequivocally that the cDNA encodes the core 2 beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase, the enzyme responsible for the formation of Gal beta 1-3(GlcNAcbeta 1-6)GalNAc structures, as has been found for all other mammalian glycosyltransferases cloned to date.
Mucin biosynthesis. Properties of a bovine tracheal mucin beta-6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase.
TLDR
The structure of the 14C-labelled oligosaccharide obtained by alkaline-borohydride treatment of the product was identified as Gal beta 1----3(Glc-NAcbeta 1----6)N-acetylgalactosaminitol by beta-hexosaminidase treatment, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and 1H-n.r.m. (270 MHz) analysis.
Posttranslational processing of endogenous and of baculovirus-expressed human gastrin-releasing peptide precursor.
TLDR
Data show for the first time that an insect ovary cell line that is widely used to overexpress proteins can process a human neuropeptide precursor and reveal the existence of novel pro-GRP-derived peptides that are candidates for biologically active ligands.
