The cricket Gryllus bimaculatus displays a sudden rigid immobility (thanatosis) when voluntary leg movements are forcibly restrained. The tibial joints in all legs are stiffly immobilized for several minutes. The flexed-leg posture typical of thanatosis is maintained by the flexor tibiae muscle.
