Morus alba root extract (MARE) has been used to treat hyperglycaemic conditions in oriental medicine. Here, we studied whether MARE possesses a cytotoxic effect on neuroblastoma. To check the cytotoxicity generated by MARE was whether relatively higher against the cancer cells rather than normal cells, we chose a neuroblastoma cell line (B103) and a normal cell line (Rat-2). A CCK assay revealed that MARE (10 μg/ml) reduced cell viability to approximately 60% compared to an untreated control in…

Angelica polymorpha Maxim Induces Apoptosis of Human SH-SY5Y Neuroblastoma Cells by Regulating an Intrinsic Caspase Pathway
It is demonstrated that an intrinsic mitochondria-mediated apoptosis pathway mediates the apoptotic effects of APRE on SH-SY5Y cells, and that APRE shows promise as a novel agent for neuroblastoma therapy.
Root Bark of Morus Alba L. Induced p53-Independent Apoptosis in Human Colorectal Cancer Cells by Suppression of STAT3 Activity
The molecular mechanism underlying the methylene chloride extract of MA (MEMA)-induced apoptosis in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells is investigated, suggesting that MEMA can be applied not only to p 53 wild-type CRC in the early stages but also to p53-mutant advanced CRC with hyperactivated STAT3.
Chaetocin induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis by regulating the ROS-mediated ASK-1/JNK signaling pathways.
Findings indicate that chaetocin arrests the cell cycle and induces apoptosis by regulating the reactive oxygen species-mediated ASK-1/JNK signaling pathways.

Molecular mechanisms of apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma cells induced by ethanol extracts of Solanum lyratum Thumb through the mitochondrial pathway
ST ethanol extracts induced the apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma SMMC-7721 cells through up-regulated Fas, caspase-8, casse-3 and p53, and down- regulated FasL and Bcl-2 in the mitochondrial pathway.
Mori Ramulus Suppresses Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Oxidative Damage in Murine Myoblast C2C12 Cells through Activation of AMPK
The results demonstrate that AEMR could protect C2C12 myoblasts from oxidative damage by maintaining mitochondrial function while eliminating ROS, at least with activation of the AMPK signaling pathway.
The root bark of Morus alba L. regulates tumor‐associated macrophages by blocking recruitment and M2 polarization of macrophages
It is demonstrated that MEMA regulates TAMs by blocking the recruitment of macrophages into tumor microenvironments and by inhibiting M2 polarization ofmacrophages, which resulted in the reduced migration of Lewis lung carcinoma cells.
Molecular Insights Into Therapeutic Potential of Autophagy Modulation by Natural Products for Cancer Stem Cells
The importance of understanding the role of autophagy in the maintenance of different CSCs and implications of this connection for the development of new strategies for cancer treatment targeting natural products are emphasized.
Phytochemicals as a Complement to Cancer Chemotherapy: Pharmacological Modulation of the Autophagy-Apoptosis Pathway
This review sought to highlight the molecular basis of the autophagic-apoptotic pathway to understand its implication in the pathobiology of cancer, and explore this fundamental cellular process as a druggable anticancer target.

Cortex mori extract induces cancer cell apoptosis through inhibition of microtubule assembly
Overall, the water extract of CM induces apoptosis of tumor cells by inhibiting microtubule assembly by binding to the tubulins resulting in a marked inhibition of the assembly, but not the disassembly of microtubules.
Albanol A from the root bark of Morus alba L. induces apoptotic cell death in HL60 human leukemia cell line.
Albanol A may be a promising lead compound for developing an effective drug for treatment of leukemia via both the cell death receptor pathway by stimulation of death receptor, and the mitochondrial pathway by Topo II inhibition through caspase-2 activation.
Antihyperglycemic Drug Gymnema sylvestre Also Shows Anticancer Potentials in Human Melanoma A375 Cells via Reactive Oxygen Species Generation and Mitochondria-Dependent Caspase Pathway
Overall results indicate GS to have significant anticancer effect on A375 cells apart from its reported antidiabetic effect, indicating possibility of its palliative use in patients with symptoms of both the diseases.
Antiproliferative Effects of Methanolic Extracts of Cryptocarya concinna Hance Roots on Oral Cancer Ca9-22 and CAL 27 Cell Lines Involving Apoptosis, ROS Induction, and Mitochondrial Depolarization
It is demonstrated that MECCrt may have antiproliferative potential against oral cancer cells involving apoptosis, ROS generation, and mitochondria membrane depolarization.
Berberine, a natural product, induces G1-phase cell cycle arrest and caspase-3-dependent apoptosis in human prostate carcinoma cells
The effectiveness of berberine in checking the growth of androgens-insensitive, as well as androgen-sensitive, prostate cancer cells without affecting thegrowth of normal prostate epithelial cells indicates that it may be a promising candidate for prostate cancer therapy.
JNK1/2 Activation by an Extract from the Roots of Morus alba L. Reduces the Viability of Multidrug-Resistant MCF-7/Dox Cells by Inhibiting YB-1-Dependent MDR1 Expression
The data indicate that REM-activated JNK-cJun/c-Fos pathway decreases the viability of MCF-7/Dox cells by inhibiting YB-1-dependent MDR1 gene expression, which suggests that REM may be useful for treating multidrug-resistant cancer cells.
JNK 1 / 2 Activation by an Extract from the Roots of Morus alba L . Reduces the Viability of Multidrug-Resistant MCF-7 / Dox Cells by Inhibiting YB-1-Dependent MDR 1 Expression
REMactivated JNK1/2 activation by an extract from the root of Morus alba L. reduces doxorubicin-resistant MCF-7/Dox cell viability by inhibiting YB-1 regulation of MDR1 gene expression, suggesting that REM may be useful for treating multidrug-resistant cancer cells.
Pancreatic Tumor Suppression by Benzyl Isothiocyanate Is Associated with Inhibition of PI3K/AKT/FOXO Pathway
Western blot analyses and immunohistochemistry revealed that tumors from BITC-treated mice showed reduced phosphorylation of PI3K, AKT, PDK1, mTOR, FOXO1, and FOXO3a and increased apoptosis, providing convincing evidence on the involvement ofPI3K/AKT/FOXO pathway in BITC -mediated pancreatic tumor growth suppression.
Mulberry Fruit Extract Protects Pancreatic β-Cells against Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Apoptosis via Antioxidative Activity
