This report presents 2013 U.S. final mortality data on deaths and death rates by demographic and medical characteristics. These data provide information on mortality patterns among U.S. residents by such variables as sex, race and ethnicity, and cause of death. Information on mortality patterns is key to understanding changes in the health and well-being of the U.S. population (1). Life expectancy estimates, age-adjusted death rates by race and ethnicity and sex, 10 leading causes of death, and…

Widening Socioeconomic and Racial Disparities in Cardiovascular Disease Mortality in the United States, 1969-2013
TLDR
Socioeconomic and racial disparities in CVD mortality are marked and have increased over time because of faster declines in mortality among the affluent and majority populations and with rising prevalence of many chronic disease risk factors.
All-Cause Mortality for Diabetics or Individuals with Hyperglycemia Applying for Life Insurance.
Diabetics and individuals with lab results consistent with a diagnosis of diabetes or hyperglycemia were extracted from data covering US residents who applied for life insurance between January 2007
Profile of the Older Population Living in Miami-Dade County, Florida
TLDR
Findings of 3 household-based surveys show a predominantly elderly, female, uninsured, and poor minority populations living in MDC, FL.
Predictors of Mortality in Older Homeless Veterans
TLDR
Several variables associated with mortality were identified and a risk score based on status for these variables was significantly related to survival, underline the jeopardy faced by older homeless veterans in terms of early death.
Association of Birthplace and Coronary Heart Disease and Stroke Among US Adults: National Health Interview Survey, 2006 to 2014
TLDR
Overall, foreign‐born adults residing in the United States had a lower prevalence of coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke than US‐ born adults, however, considerable heterogeneity of CHD and stroke risk was found by region of birth.
An Investigation of Selection Bias in Estimating Racial Disparity in Stroke Risk Factors: The REGARDS Study
TLDR
adjusted risk ratio estimates of racial disparities from complete-case analyses in both incident hypertension and incident left ventricular hypertrophy were virtually identical to estimates from inverse probability of attrition weighting and survivor average causal effect, and there was little evidence of selection bias in the estimation of racial differences for these incident risk factors.
Causes of death in Brazil
TLDR
The findings showed that Brazil has a large spectrum of causes of death and methods to decrease the mortality rates should be implemented in a local scenario rather than a nation-wide approach, where each location has to focus on its most urging problem.
Resuscitating End-of-Life Care.
Assessing Sex Differences in the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease and Mortality per Increment in Systolic Blood Pressure: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Follow-Up Studies in the United States
TLDR
The results demonstrated that the risk of CV disease per 10 mm Hg SBP increment for women was 1.1-fold higher than men (P<0.01) and there was no significant sex difference in CV mortality.

TLDR
The decline of the age-adjusted death rate to a record low value for the United States, and the increase in life expectancy to arecord high value of 78.7 years, are consistent with long-term trends in mortality.
