Dear Editor: The cell line CaCo-2, originally establisbed in 1977 by Fogh el at. (5), is capable of enterocytic differentiation (4,9). Differentiated CaCo-2 cells develop high levels of lactase, sucrase-isomahase, and alkaline phosphatase, and are regarded as a valid model system, Simultaneously, typical brush border membranes characterize the morphologic differentiation (9) and tight junctions indicate a polarization of the cells (9).
