The normal murine thymus was examined by lightand electron microscopy to determine the distribution and morphology of extracellular cystic cavities. Most cavities were confined to the cranial half of each gland, situated at the junction between cortex and medulla. They varied in size and shape, and gave rise to narrow channels that coursed to the capsular surface of the gland. Large cavities could be divided into three zones.
