Basolateral interstitial spaces (BLIS) of the murine macula densa (MD) are dilated in kidneys fixed either by in vivo glutaraldehyde perfusion or snap freezing-freeze substitution, suggesting that macula densa intercellular spaces may be normally dilated in the functioning nephron.
