Mordell’s review, Siegel’s Ietter to Mordell, diophantine geometry, and 20th century mathematics

In 1962, I published Diophantine Geometry. Mordeil reviewed this book (Mor 1964](note 1) , and the review became famous. Immediately after the review appeared, in that same year, Siegel wrote a Ietter to Mordeil to express his agreement with Mordell's review concerning the overallnature of the book, and to express more generally hisnegative reaction to trends in mathematics of the 1950's and 1960's.
