The incidence of monozygotic twinning (MZT) is higher in pregnancies conceived after assisted reproduction than after natural conception. Alterations, produced by ovarian stimulation, in-vitro culture conditions and specifically alterations of zona pellucida are mentioned as possible causes of this phenomenon.
