BACKGROUND Hyperglycemia could accelerate monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1) production in monocytes and vascular endothelial cells. Recently, a genetic polymorphism (-2518 A/G) located in MCP-1 gene promoter has been found that could influence the expression of MCP-1.
