A competitive binding assay based on localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of folic acid-functionalized gold nanoparticles (FA-AuNPs) and human dihydrofolate reductase enzyme (hDHFR) was developed to detect nanomolar to micromolar concentrations of the widely applied anti-cancer drug, methotrexate (MTX).
