Heat production rate, measured by a flow-through microcalorimeter, was the only continuous on-line measurement in order to indirectly determine substrate and product concentrations during aerobic batch growth of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae with glucose as carbon and energy source. The results showed a very high agreement between indirectly calculated and actually measured concentrations of glucose, ethanol and biomass.
