An ELISA for molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV) was used to determine the antibody status of 35 adults with clinical infections and known human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) serology and of 357 persons (ages, 1 week-69 years) considered representative of the Australian population. MCV antibody was identified in 77% of persons with molluscum lesions: in 17 of 24 HIV-1-negative persons and in 10 of 11 who were HIV-1-positive. No relationship was evident between the serologic responses and the…
Molecular epidemiology of molluscum contagiosum virus and analysis of the host‐serum antibody response in Spanish HIV‐negative patients
TLDR
Immunoblotting of MCV lesions and vaccinia virus‐infected cell extracts with either MCV patient serum or a rabbit antiserum against Vaccinia virus showed no cross‐reactivity of these two human poxviruses at the antigenic level.
Seroprevalence of Molluscum contagiosum Virus in German and UK Populations
TLDR
The first large scale serological survey of MC in Europe and the first MCV ELISA based on viral antigen expressed in E. coli are reported, finding German seroprevalences determined in the MC084 ELISA are at least three times higher than incidence in a comparable Swiss population.
Antibodies to molluscum contagiosum virus in the general population and susceptible patients.
TLDR
The humoral immune response to MCV is usually confined to patients with molluscum contagiosum and may be affected by the immunological condition of the host.
The Role of Vaccinia Virus Vaccination in Protection against Molluscum Contagiosum Infection
TLDR
This study may be the first study in Iraq showed that the vaccinia virus vaccine may have the protective effect in the prevention of molluscum contagiosum and decrease recurrence rate of this infection.
The epidemiology of Molluscum contagiosum in HIV-seropositive patients: a unique entity or insignificant finding?

TLDR
There was no unique feature of MC in adult HIV patients; nevertheless, the appearance of MC lesions in adult men should require evaluation for immunocompromised state.
ELISA for Molluscum Contagiosum Virus
TLDR
The methods described show that polypeptides derived from MCV open reading frames MC084, mc133, and glutathione S‐transferase (GST)‐H3L expressed in E. coli RIL+ as GST fusion proteins can be used to assess antibody binding in a GST capture ELISA.
Molluscum contagiosum: an update and review of new perspectives in etiology, diagnosis, and treatment
TLDR
Clinically, MC presents as firm rounded papules, pink or skin-colored, with a shiny and umbilicated surface, and the duration of the lesions is variable, but in most cases, they are self-limited in a period of 6–9 months.
The epidemiology of molluscum contagiosum in children.
TLDR
The purpose was to collect epidemiologic data on children with MC with regard to age, gender, ethnicity, degree of involvement, relation to pre-existing atopic dermatitis (AD), and immune status and provide valuable updated information on the demographics and clinical presentation of MC in pediatric patients in the United States.
Investigation of the infectious cycle of molluscum contagiosum virus in human skin and the nature of MCV induced immunity
TLDR
Interesting findings were that MCV not only infects human keratinocytes, but also a wide range of animal and human cells in vitro, which, however, do not support replication.
Molluscum Contagiosum Virus
TLDR
Molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV) is the causative agent of benign wart-like skin tumors limited to the human epidermis and is the only clinically relevant poxvirus infection of humans.

Molecular epidemiology of Australian isolates of molluscum contagiosum
TLDR
Fragment F (10 kbp) obtained from the genome ofMCV 1 was capable of differentiating MCV 1 from MCV 2 when used as a probe in hybridisation experiments with BamHl cut samples and may be useful when small amounts of lesion prevents differentiation by direct visualisation of restriction endonuclease fragments.
Observations on the antibody responses in molluscum contagiosum
A survey of the incidence of molluscum contagiosum virion antigens in patients with single or multiple lesions showed that all lesions contain virus antigen. The virion antigens were detected in the
Trends in Molluscum Contagiosum in the United States, 1966–1983
TLDR
Like the prevalence of other viral sexually transmitted diseases in the private medical community, that of molluscum contagiosum infections appears to have increased dramatically over the 18-year span covered by this study.
Molluscum contagiosum in Dutch general practice.
TLDR
The incidence of molluscum contagiosum in Dutch general practice was found to be 2.4 per 1000 person years, and the infection appeared to be common in childhood; the adult, sexually transmitted, form was rare.
Replication of molluscum contagiosum virus.
TLDR
In human foreskin grafts to athymic mice, MCV induced morphological changes which were indistinguishable from patient biopsies and included the development and migration of molluscum bodies containing mature virions to the epidermal surface.
Lack of host cellular immune response in eruptive molluscum contagiosum.
TLDR
The observation of lipid material ultrastructurally and cross-reactivity immunocytochemically of the antigens on these molluscum bodies with antigen normally present on macrophages, as defined by DAKO-macrophage monoclonal antibodies are considered.

Molluscum contagiosum: serology and electron microscopy findings in twenty one patients.
TLDR
Twenty one cases of molluscum contagiosum virus disease were collected for electron microscopical and serological tests and the patients developed specific antibodies to the virus detected by complement fixation test.
Biogenesis of poxviruses: transitory expression of Molluscum contagiosum early functions.
TLDR
It is, therefore, most likely that MC replication is blocked in vitro because the agent is unable to pass through the uncoating phase.
Human immunodeficiency virus infection induces both polyclonal and virus-specific B cell activation.
TLDR
Observations demonstrate that both quantitative and qualitative changes in B cell activation accompany (and may be predictive of) disease progression in HIV-infected individuals.
