We propose random tight-binding models that host macroscopically degenerate zero energy modes and belong to the unitary class. Specifically, we employ the molecular-orbital representation, where a Hamiltonian is constructed by a set of non-orthogonal orbitals composed of linear combinations of atomic orbitals. By setting the coefficients appearing in molecular orbitals to be random U(1) variables, we can make the models belong to the unitary class. We find two characteristic behaviors that are…

Molecular-orbital representation of generic flat-band models

We develop a framework to describe a wide class of flat-band models, with and without a translational symmetry, by using “molecular orbitals” introduced in a prior work (Hatsugai Y. and Maruyama I.,

Observation of bulk-edge correspondence in topological pumping based on a tunable electric circuit

In topological phases, localized edge states protected by the bulk topological number appear. This phenomenon is known as the bulk-edge correspondence, which has been theoretically established in

ZQ topological invariants for Polyacetylene, Kagome and Pyrochlore lattices

Adiabatic ZQ invariants by quantized Berry phases are defined for gapped electronic systems in d-dimensions (Q=d+1). This series includes Polyacetylene, Kagome and Pyrochlore lattice, respectively

Flat bands in the Weaire–Thorpe model and silicene

In order to analytically capture and identify peculiarities in the electronic structure of silicene, the Weaire–Thorpe (WT) model, a standard model for treating three-dimensional (3D) silicon, is

More precisely, in the models we have studied so far, the amplitudes of the real-valued coefficients are random
