Nucleic acid amplification techniques (NAATs) represent a major advance in the diagnosis of Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) infection. This review analyzes the different options available for a molecular diagnosis of C. difficile infection, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of NAATs.
