Propagation, whether sexual or asexual, is a fundamental step in the life cycle of every organism. In lichenized fungi, a great variety of vegetative propagules have evolved in order for the symbiotic partners to disperse simultaneously. For lichens with the ability of sexual and asexual reproduction, the relative contribution of vegetative dispersal is unknown but could, nonetheless, be inferred by studying genotype distribution.
