Cellular protooncogenes, tumor suppressor genes (antioncogenes), and DNA mismatch repair mutators are generally the key molecular genetic biomarkers undergoing alterations during carcinogenesis, i.e., activation of oncogenes, inactivation of tumor suppressors, and DNA mismatch repair gene defects are essential events in cancer causation.
