Anaplasma phagocytophilum is the causative agent of human granulocytic anaplasmosis and tick-borne fever in domestic ruminants. Differential diagnosis of zoonotic and pathogenic tick-borne diseases like granulocytic anaplasmosis is important for the efficient implementation of control programs.
