Nucleotide-sugar transporters (NSTs) form a family of structurally related transmembrane proteins that transport nucleotide-sugars from the cytoplasm to the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi lumen. In these organelles, activated sugars are substrates for various glycosyltransferases involved in oligo- and polysaccharide biosynthesis.
