The complete genome sequence of a novel dsRNA virus isolated from Rhizoctonia fumigata AG-Ba isolate C-314 Baishi (designated as Rhizoctonia fumigata virus 1, RfV1) was determined. The RfV1 genome was 9,907 bp in length and contained two open reading frames (ORFs). ORF1 potentially coded for a 198.10-kDa protein (P1). P1 shared low but significant amino acid sequence similarity to the putative protein encoded by Lentinula edodes mycovirus (LeV) ORF1. P1 contained a NUDIX domain, which was also… Expand
Identification of a novel mycovirus isolated from Rhizoctonia solani (AG 2-2 IV) provides further information about genome plasticity within the order Tymovirales
The complete genome of a novel mycovirus, named RsFV-1, which infects an avirulent strain of Rhizoctonia solani AG 2-2 IV, was sequenced and analyzed, and revealed its relatedness to members of the alphavirus-like superfamily of positive-strand RNA viruses. Expand
Complete Nucleotide Sequence of a Partitivirus from Rhizoctonia solani AG-1 IA Strain C24
Phylogenetic analysis revealed that RsPV5 clustered together with six other viruses in an independent clade of the genus Alphapartitivirus, indicating that the complete genome of a novel double-stranded RNA mycovirus, isolated from rice sheath blight fungus R. solani AG-1 IA strain C24, was sequenced and analysed. Expand
Molecular characterization of a new monopartite dsRNA mycovirus from mycorrhizal Thelephora terrestris (Ehrh.) and its detection in soil oribatid mites (Acari: Oribatida).
A novel dsRNA virus was identified in the mycorrhizal fungus Thelephora terrestris (Ehrh.) and sequenced and the first description of mycovirus presence in oribatid mites is described. Expand
Deep Sequencing Analysis Reveals the Mycoviral Diversity of the Virome of an Avirulent Isolate of Rhizoctonia solani AG-2-2 IV
Deep sequencing analysis of the dsRNA extract of the avirulent R. solani isolate DC17 (AG2-2-IV) revealed that this isolate harbors at least 17 different mycovirus species, the first report of a fungal isolate infected by 17 different viral species and a valuable study case to explore the diversity of myCoviruses infecting R.solani. Expand
Characterization of a new megabirnavirus that confers hypovirulence with the aid of a co-infecting partitivirus to the host fungus, Rosellinia necatrix.
Interestingly, RnPV1 accumulation appeared to be increased in co-infected fungal strain with two segments of RnMBV2 relative to singly infected fungal strains, while the individual viruses exhibited asymptomatic infections. Expand
Virus population structure in the ectomycorrhizal fungi Lactarius rufus and L. tabidus at two forest sites in Southern Finland.
The first complete genome sequences of these viruses were characterized, finding that single virus isolates inhabited several different conspecific host strains, and were involved in persistent infections during up to eight years. Expand
Ribosomal frameshifting and transcriptional slippage: From genetic steganography and cryptography to adventitious use
Together with dynamic codon redefinition, frameshifting is one of the forms of recoding that enriches gene expression and generates productively utilized products encoded trans-frame with respect to the genomic sequence. Expand

The complete genomic sequence of a novel mycovirus from Rhizoctonia solani AG-1 IA strain B275
This is the first report of the full-length nucleotide sequence of a novel dsRNA mycovirus, RsRV1, infecting R. solani AG-1 IA strain B275, the causal agent of rice sheath blight. Expand
Molecular characterisation of an endornavirus from Rhizoctonia solani AG-3PT infecting potato.
This is the first report of an endornavirus in R. solani, and thus the putative virus is herein named Rhizoctonia solani endORNavirus - RS002 (RsEV-RS002). Expand
Molecular characterization of the genome of a partitivirus from the basidiomycete Rhizoctonia solani.
The bisegmented genome of a double-stranded (ds) RNA virus from the fungus Rhizoctonia solani isolate Rhs 717 was characterized and showed that dsRNAs 1 and 2 could code for polypeptides of 730 aa and 683 aa, respectively. Expand

The results suggest that LeV represents a novel family of mycoviruses, found thus far only among the basidiomycetes, and placed apart from the Totiviridae and Chrysoviridae families. Expand
A virulence-associated, 6.4-kb, double-stranded RNA from Rhizoctonia solani is phylogenetically related to plant bromoviruses and electron transport enzymes.
We have recently shown that acquisition of a 6.4-kb, double-stranded (ds) RNA (M1) by hyphal anastomosis is associated with enhanced vigor and virulence, whereas its removal by hyphal tippingExpand
Biological properties and expression strategy of rosellinia necatrix megabirnavirus 1 analysed in an experimental host, Cryphonectria parasitica.
Intriguingly, whilst RnMBV1 reduced both virulence and growth rate in Δdcl-2, it attenuated virulence without affecting significantly other traits in EP155, which provides an additional example of C. parasitica serving as a versatile, heterologous fungus for exploring virus-host interactions and virus gene expression strategies. Expand
Genome rearrangement of a mycovirus Rosellinia necatrix megabirnavirus 1 affecting its ability to attenuate virulence of the host fungus.
This isolated strain of RnMBV1 with genome rearrangements had a newly emerged segment named dsRNAS1, but with loss of dsRNA2, which contains two ORFs of unknown function, suggesting that ds RNA2, while dispensable for virus replication, is required to reduce the virulence of R. necatrix. Expand
