BACKGROUND Studies have described an encapsulated and an infiltrative form of the follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (FVPTC). Encapsulated FVPTCs have been reported to have virtually no recurrence risk or metastatic potential and to harbor RAS mutations but not BRAF mutations.
