An analysis of soft breaking under the constraint of modular invariance is given. The role of dilaton and moduli dependent front factors in achieving a modular invariant ${V}_{\mathrm{s}\mathrm{o}\mathrm{f}\mathrm{t}}$ is emphasized. Further, it is shown that in string models $\mathrm{tan}\ensuremath{\beta}$ is no longer a free parameter but is determined in terms of ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{\mathrm{s}\mathrm{t}\mathrm{r}\mathrm{i}\mathrm{n}\mathrm{g}}$ and the other soft parameters by the…
