An improved single‐degree‐of‐freedom (SDOF) approach is presented for the analysis of shallow‐buried reinforced concrete box‐type structures under the effect of blast and shock environments. The method is based on rational models for structural resistance functions that describe the combined effects of flexure, shear, and in‐plane compression on the system response.
