We modify the directed-loop algorithm (DLA) to solve the problem that typically arises from large on-site interaction. The large on-site interaction is inevitable when one tries to simulate a Bose gas system in continuum by discretizing the space with small lattice spacings. While the efficiency of a straightforward application of DLA decreases as the mesh becomes finer, the performance of the new method does not depend on it except for the trivial factor due to the increase in the number of… Expand

Monte Carlo approach to phase transitions in quantum systems
We propose algorithms of the path-ingetral-based quantum Monte Carlo simulation, which is otherwise prohibitively slow. While the basic idea is the loop-cluster update, there are some importantExpand
Quantum Monte Carlo method for the Bose-Hubbard model with harmonic confining potential.
The directed-loop algorithm is modified to simulate large systems efficiently and coherence between two superfluid spheres separated by a Mott insulator region in a "wedding-cake" structure is observed. Expand
Direct mapping of the finite temperature phase diagram of strongly correlated quantum models.
A general method for obtaining the finite temperature phase diagram of strongly correlated quantum models emulated by optical lattice experiments using only the density profile of atoms in the trap by using "exact" quantum Monte Carlo simulations in a trap with up to 10(6) bosons. Expand
Bose Hubbard Model Confined in the Restricted Geometry
We investigated a Bose system confined in one-dimensional channel by using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We observed temperature dependences of the superfluid density and two correlation functionsExpand

Exotic incommensurate order of weakly coupled S=1/2 XXZ antiferromagnetic chains
We study the ordered state of the quasi-one dimensional S = 1/2 XXZ spin model in magnetic fields by using quantum Monte Carlo simulations based on the directed-loop algorithm. The H-T phase diagramExpand
Quantum Monte Carlo Simulations of the Kosterlitz-Thouless Transition for Two-Dimensional Disordered Bose-Hubbard Model
In two-dimensional (2D) Bose systems, it is well known that Koterlitz-Thouless (KT) transition occurs. In this report, we perform quantum Monte Carlo simulations to investigate the 2D disorderedExpand
Quantum Monte Carlo study of the superfluid density in quasi-one-dimensional systems of hard-core bosons: Effect of the suppression of phase slippage
We study the superfluid density of hard-core bosons on quasi-one-dimensional lattices using the quantum Monte Carlo method. Because of phase slippage, the superfluid density drops quickly to zero atExpand
Study of Kosterlitz-Thouless Transition of Bose Systems Governed by a Random Potential Using Quantum Monte Carlo Simulations
We perform quantum Monte Carlo simulations to study the 2D hard-core Bose–Hubbard model in a random potential. Our motivation is to investigate the effects of randomness on the Kosterlitz–ThoulessExpand
Sharp peaks in the momentum distribution of bosons in optical lattices in the normal state
Recognizing a superfluid when we see one may be more difficult than we originally thought. Simulations suggest that the sharp peaks associated with superfluidity in ultracold atoms do not provide aExpand
