Annexin II is a member of the annexin family of Ca(2+)- and phospholipid-binding proteins which is particularly enriched on early endosomal membranes and has been implicated in participating in endocytic events. In contrast to other endosomal annexins the association of annexin II with its target membrane can occur in the absence of Ca(2+) in a manner depending on the unique N-terminal domain of the protein.
