Various methods of laparoscopic sterilization are discussed. Electrocoagulation is performed either by bipolar coagulation or thermocoagulation with or without tubal resection. The disadvantages of this method are the possibility of burns and the general lack of reversibility. The Falope-ring and the Hulka-Clemens clip are mechanical methods used for sterilization. These devices can be applied under local anesthesia. The disadvantages of these methods are decreased tolerance and effectiveness over long periods of time and the increased incidence of ectopic pregnancy. These methods do offer a better chance of reversibility, however.
