This paper proposes an alternative approach to understand some current changes in capitalism by shifting the theoretical emphasis to the production process and to the commodity form. To accomplish this, we show how modern-day industry is increasingly heading towards the production of commodities sui generis – namely valueless ‘knowledge-commodities’, which cannot be sold, but only rented.
