Abstract A canopy microenvironment turbulence model, based on higher-order closure principles, is presented. The model consists of equations for the mean quantities and their vertical turbulent fluxes. Approximate equations for the triple correlations are incorporated to bypass the need to make parameterizations for the triple correlations based on gradient diffusion assumptions.
