Abstract We consider the ionisation of atomic hydrogen by a strong infrared field. We extend and study in more depth an existing semi-analytical model. Starting from the time-dependent Schrödinger equation in momentum space and in the velocity gauge we substitute the kernel of the non-local Coulomb potential by a sum of N separable potentials, each of them supporting one hydrogen bound state. This leads to a set of N coupled one-dimensional linear Volterra integral equations to solve. We…

Multiple absorption of laser photons by atoms

Applying a space translation operation, the Schrodinger equation for an atom in an electromagnetic field is solved with sufficient accuracy to obtain probabilities for multiple absorption of photons

Ionization of atoms by strong infrared fields: Solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation in momentum space for a model based on separable potentials

We consider the ionization of atomic hydrogen by a strong infrared field. By starting from the corresponding time-dependent Schrodinger equation in momentum space, we develop a model in which the

Strong-field approximation for intense-laser-atom processes: The choice of gauge

The strong-field approximation (SFA) can be and has been applied in both length gauge and velocity gauge with quantitatively conflicting answers. For ionization of negative ions with a ground state

Theory of high-harmonic generation by low-frequency laser fields.

A simple, analytic, and fully quantum theory of high-harmonic generation by low-frequency laser fields is presented and the exact quantum-mechanical formula for the harmonic cutoff that differs from the phenomenological law Ip+3.17Up is presented.

Direct and indirect pathways in strong field atomic ionization dynamics.

With the help of a suitably chosen momentum-space analysis, we study some of the basic mechanisms governing the physics of the processes occurring when atoms are submitted to intense infrared laser

Rings in above-threshold ionization: A quasiclassical analysis.

It is demonstrated that contributions from the direct tunneling processes in the absence of rescattering are not sufficient to describe the observed ATI spectra, and the high-energy portion of the spectrum, including recently discovered rings, are due to rescattering processes.

Strong field ionization and gauge dependence of nonlocal potentials

Nonlocal potential models have been used in place of the Coulomb potential in the Schrodinger equation as an efficient means of exploring high field laser-atom interaction in previous works. Al-
