This report is concerned with the role time plays within any structural description of a complex computer-based system. Indeed this report explores the benefits of placing time at the centre of any description of system structure. To exploit the unique properties of time, with the aim of producing more dependable computerbased systems it is desirable to explicitly identify distinct time bands in which the system is situated.
