A critical analysis is carried out of both experimental and theoretical data on the precritical creep crack growth rate which allows one to describe the process. A model is presented of crack tearing in an elastic nonlinear viscous material which is based on the application of a scalar damage parameter having corresponding kinetic equations. It is assumed that the crack length continuously grows due to the damage parameter achieving its critical value in the prefailure region at the crack tip…
