We present a novel approach to model the nearby stars Alpha Cen A & B and Procyon A using asteroseismic and interferometric constraints. Using the VINCI instrument installed at the VLT Interferometer (VLTI), the angular diameters of the Alpha Centauri system were measured with a relative precision of 0.2% and 0.6%, respectively. From these values, we derive linear radii of R[A] = 1.224 +/- 0.003 R_sun and R[B] = 0.863 +/- 0.005 R_sun. These radii are in excellent agreement with the models of…

CESAM: A code for stellar evolution calculations
The cesam code is a consistent set of programs and routines which perform calculations of 1D quasi-hydrostatic stellar evolution including microscopic diffusion of chemical species and diffusion of
Evolutionary sequences of stellar models with new radiative opacities. VI. $Z=0.0001$
We present a large grid of stellar evolutionary models with the initial chemical composition (Z = 0:0001;Y =0 :23). These tracks are conceived to extend the grid of stellar models described in the
Evolution and Seismology of Procyon
We have calculated an array of stellar models for Procyon A that are based on the best physics available to us, including the latest opacities and nuclear cross sections. The array of models spans
Comments on helioseismic inference
In this lecture a selection of the techniques for making immediate inferences will be discussed, and illustrated with examples of topical interest.
VINCI, the VLTI commissioning instrument: status after one year of operations at Paranal
Installed at the heart of the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI), VINCI combines coherently the infrared light coming from two telescopes. The first fringes were obtained in March 2001 with
VINCI / VLTI observations of Main Sequence stars
Main Sequence (MS) stars are by far the most numerous class in the Universe. They are often somewhat neglected as they are relatively quiet objects (but exceptions exist), though they bear testimony
A Redetermination of the Mass of Procyon
The parallax and astrometric orbit of Procyon have been redetermined from PDS measurements of over 250 photographic plates spanning 83 years, with roughly 600 exposures used in the solution. These
Constraining the difference in convective blueshift between the components of alpha Centauri with precise radial velocities
New radial velocities of Cen A & B obtained in the framework the Anglo-Australian Planet Search programme as well as in the CORALIE programme are added to those by Endl et al. (2001) to improve the
Visual binary orbits and masses POST HIPPARCOS
The parallaxes from Hipparcos are an important ingredient to derive more accurate masses for known orbital binaries, but in order to exploit the parallaxes fully, the orbital elements have to be
