Modeling Techniques for Simulation-based Performance Evaluation of Mobility Management Schemes

Abstract

Mobility management is a crucial technology for the seamless access of wireless networks and mobile services. The goal of this paper is to study the basic theory for the performance evaluation of mobility management schemes, emphasizing the modeling techniques of simulation-based evaluation method. Target communication system modeling issues and workload modeling methods are discussed. As the core part of the workload modeling process, an in-depth discussion on user behavior modeling techniques, including both mobility modeling and traffic modeling, are presented in the paper. Performance evaluation metrics are also specified and analyzed.
