In our experience, some ontology users find it much easier to convey logical statements using rules rather than OWL (or description logic) axioms. Based on recent theoretical developments on transformations between rules and description logics, we develop ROWL, a Protege plugin that allows users to enter OWL axioms by way of rules; the plugin then automatically converts these rules into OWL DL axioms if possible, and prompts the user in case such a conversion is not possible without weakening… Expand
Rule-Based OWL Modeling with ROWLTab Protégé Plugin
TLDR
ROWLTab is a Protege plugin that allows users to enter OWL axioms by way of rules; the plugin then automatically converts these rules into OWL 2 DL axiomatic if possible, and prompts the user in case such a conversion is not possible without weakening the semantics of the rule. Expand
On the Roles of Logical Axiomatizations for Ontologies
TLDR
This paper focuses on logic-based knowledge representation, which has been a mainstay of the Artificial Intelligence field since its inception in the 1950s and is the foundation for information representation languages on the World Wide Web, and thus for the Semantic Web. Expand
A visual modeling approach for the Semantic Web Rule Language
TLDR
This paper presents a visual approach which allows users to analyse and modify SWRL rules by building upon a visual modeling language and includes validation mechanisms and layouting algorithms for visually representing new as well as existing rules. Expand
Software Experience for an Ontology-Based Approach for the Definition of Alarms in Geographical Sensor Systems
TLDR
A system based on ontologies for the definition of alarms in sensor systems, complemented with Semantic Web Rule Language rules and search elements in the Semantic Query-enhanced Web rule Language is presented. Expand
BioOnto: Towards an Integration of Biological and Biogeographic Data
In this work we present the preliminary design of BioOnto, an ontologybased system designed to integrate two important databases for Argentine science, the National System of Biological Data (SNDB)Expand
Interaction Capabilities of a Robotic Receptionist
TLDR
The presented system is part of a broader social robot framework whose goal is to give the user a fulfilling social interaction experience, driven by the perception of the robot internal state and involving intuitive and computational creativity capabilities. Expand
A knowledge‐based self‐pre‐diagnosis system to predict Covid‐19 in smartphone users using personal data and observed symptoms
TLDR
A rule‐based expert system is designed as a predictive tool in self‐pre‐diagnosis of Covid‐19 and can be suitable for diagnosing and monitoring of positive cases in the areas other than clinics and hospitals during the Covid-19 pandemic. Expand

A better uncle for OWL: nominal schemas for integrating rules and ontologies
TLDR
It is shown that adding nominal schemas to OWL 2 does not increase the worst-case reasoning complexity, and a novel tractable language SROELV3(∩, x) that is versatile enough to capture the lightweight languages OWL EL and OWL RL is identified. Expand
Extending Description Logic Rules
TLDR
A set of first order logic rules, C-Rules, are formally defined, which can be expressed within OWL extended with role conjunction, and it is shown that the use of nominal schemas results in even broader coverage. Expand
