The model is derived from the reactive NavierStokes equations where losses are accounted for by additional sink terms in the momentum and energy equations. The model was demonstrated to replicate experiments and was shown to perform well against substantially more computationally expensive unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes models.
