Charge-pulse experiments were performed on cells of the giant marine algaHalicystis parvula. At normal pH (8.2), the voltage decay following a charge-pulse of 500 ns duration fed to the vacuole could be described by summing two exponential relaxations. The amplitudes and time constants of these relaxations were widely separated. The parameters of the two relaxation processes were found to be pH-dependent.
