Pigmentary retinopathy is an important feature of long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (LCHAD) deficiency, a disorder of mitochondrial fatty acid beta-oxidation. Pathogenesis of this complication remains unknown. The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is affected early in this retinopathy.
