There is compelling evidence for the direct involvement of mitochondria in certain neurodegenerative disorders, such as Morbus Parkinson, FRDA (Friedreich's ataxia), ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), and temporal lobe epilepsy with Ammon's horn sclerosis.
