The effect of 6-week endurance training on mitochondrial ATP production rate was investigated in 14 elderly men. Mean age, body weight and height were 63 +/- 6 yr, 75.6 +/- 9.2 kg and 174 +/- 4 cm, respectively. Subjects trained on a Monark cycle ergometer at 79 +/- 8% of their maximal heart rate for 1 h day-1, 4 days week-1.
