Mithramycin induces a reversible inhibition of cellular RNA synthesis without affecting DNA synthesis. The authors have shown this drug induces myeloid differentiation of HL-60 promyelocytic leukemia cells and is an effective agent in certain patients with chronic granulocytic leukemia.
