Continuous cell lines from aquatic invertebrate species are few and the development of crustacean cell lines remains an elusive goal. Although a crayfish cell line derived from neural ganglia of Orconectes limosus was reported in 2000, this cell line OLGA-PH-J/92 failed to be authenticated as such. In this report, we describe our attempts to identify the taxonomic identity of the cell line through immunological and molecular techniques. Immunohistochemical screening for the expression of a… Expand
Establishment of a cell line from the ash and privet borer beetle Tylonotus bimaculatus Haldeman and assessment of its sensitivity to diacylhydrazine insecticides
TLDR
It is established that NRCAN-Tb521 is a valuable in vitro model to study effects of ecdysone agonists in wood-boring cerambycids. Expand
Identification and Full Characterisation of Two Novel Crustacean Infecting Members of the Family Nudiviridae Provides Support for Two Subfamilies
TLDR
The data support a recent proposal to create two subfamilies within the family Nudiviridae, each subdivided into several genera, and show that the three thymidine kinase genes present in all sequenced nudivirus genomes, thus far, were absent in the Crangon crangon nudiv virus. Expand
Molluscan cells in culture: primary cell cultures and cell lines.
TLDR
Attempts to establish molluscan cell cultures are summarized and the varied applications of primary cell cultures in research are described, including how simplified cell models can inform the understanding of complex networks in intact organisms. Expand
Cloning and functional analysis of the ecdysteroid receptor complex in the opossum shrimp Neomysis integer (Leach, 1814).
TLDR
The in vitro cell reporter assay, based on NiEcR-LBD/CrcRXR- LBD heterodimerization in Hi5 cells and validated with the natural ecdysteroid hormone PonA, represents a useful tool for the screening of putative EDCs. Expand
loning and functional analysis of the ecdysteroid receptor complex in the possum shrimp Neomysis integer ( Leach , 1814 )
In this paper, the non-target effects of tebufenozide were evaluated on the estuarine crustacean, the opposum shrimp Neomysis integer (Leach, 1814). Tebufenozide is a synthetic non-steroidal ecdysoneExpand
Validating taxonomic identifications in entomological research
We surveyed the treatment of taxonomic information in 567 papers published in nine entomological journals in 2016. The proportion of papers that provide taxonomic data in sufficient detail to permitExpand
Development of primary and secondary cell cultures from the lymphoid organ of Penaeus vannamei to study the replication cycle of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV)
TLDR
Primary and secondary cell cultures from the lymphoid organ of Litopenaeus vannamei were developed and the replication cycle of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) was investigated in the secondary cell culture from the glands of Lit Openaeus vANNamei. Expand
Mode of action, concentrations and effects of tributyltin in common shrimp Crangon crangon
With an annual catch of 35,000 – 50,000 tons and a commercial value of roughly €100 million, common shrimp is one of the most valuable European fisheries and aquaculture commodities. Since the lateExpand
Rapid assessment of the toxicity of oil sands process-affected waters using fish cell lines
TLDR
The multifish cell lineBioassay provides a strong degree of reproducibility among tested cell lines and good relative sensitivity of the cell line bioassay as compared to available in vivo data that could lead to cost effective, high-throughput screening assays. Expand
Cell culture, oxidative stress, and antioxidants: Avoiding pitfalls
TLDR
A greater awareness of the potential artifacts in cell culture studies is needed among the free radical/antioxidant community. Expand

A permanent cell line of the crayfish Orconectes limosus as a potential model in comparative oncology.
TLDR
The cell lines showed features of transformation, such as anchorage independence, loss of contact inhibition, and low serum requirement, which will be of interest to study if the O. limosus cell lines grow malignantly in vivo. Expand
Cell cultures from marine invertebrates: obstacles, new approaches and recent improvements
TLDR
The overall impact of recent improvements and developed protocols raises the suggestion for testing different, novel routes in the establishment of cell cultures from marine invertebrates. Expand
Attempts at producing a hybridised Penaeus mondon cell line by cellular fusion.
TLDR
Although the creation of the hybrid cells appeared successful, the cell lines lacked key crustacean cell components required for their use as an in vitro system for virus replication. Expand
Detection and Discovery of Crustacean Parasites in Blue Crabs (Callinectes sapidus) by Using 18S rRNA Gene-Targeted Denaturing High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

The use of a peptide nucleic acid (PNA) PCR hybridization blocking probe in association with PNA-PCR DHPLC is described to overcome inherent PCR bias associated with amplification of rare target genes by use of generic primers. Expand
Correct identification of species makes the amoebozoan rRNA tree congruent with morphology for the order Leptomyxida Page 1987; with description of Acramoeba dendroida n. g., n. sp., originally misidentified as 'Gephyramoeba sp.'.
TLDR
Correcting misidentifications of gymnamoebae improves the congruence between morphological diversity of Amoebozoa and their rRNA-based phylogenies, both for Leptomyxida and for the Acramoeba part of the tree. Expand
Development, characterization, conservation and storage of fish cell lines: a review
TLDR
The authors feel that the review will serve an updated database for beginners and established researchers in the field of fish cell line research and development and the importance of authentication, applications, cross-contamination and implications of overpassaged cell lines has been discussed. HEMOLYMPH ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF NEWLY FORMULATED MEDIA FOR CULTURE OF SHRIMP CELLS (PENAEUS STYLIROSTRIS)
TLDR
The comprehensive biochemical analysis of hemolymph from the blue shrimp, Penaeus stylirostris, found no evidence of sustained DNA or protein synthesis with any of the media, suggesting the composition of the cell culture medium may be inadequate to support primary cultured cells. Expand
Molecular Phylogeny of Labyrinthulids and Thraustochytrids Based On the Sequencing of 18s Ribosomal Rna Gene
TLDR
The currently used taxonomic criteria need serious reconsideration as these groupings are in disagreement with many conventional taxonomic characters and correlated better with the sugar composition of the cell wall. Expand
Marine Invertebrate Cell Cultures: New Millennium Trends
TLDR
This review analyzes activities in the field of marine invertebrate cell culture during the years 1999 to 2004 and compares the outcomes with those of the preceding decade, indicating a shift from previous investigations that had studied a more diverse range of organisms. Expand
Labyrinthulomycetes phylogeny and its implications for the evolutionary loss of chloroplasts and gain of ectoplasmic gliding.
TLDR
The phylogenetic position of the labyrinthulomycetes relative to the non-photosynthetic bicoeceans and oomycETes and the photosynthetic ochrophytes was inferred and it was suggested that species that glide via an ectoplasm evolved from species that had used the ectoplasms mainly for anchorage and assimilation rather than motility.
