A technique for controlled deposition of biomaterials and cells in specific and complex architectures is described. It employs a highly accurate three-dimensional micropositioning system with a pressure-controlled syringe to deposit biopolymer structures with a lateral resolution of 5 microm. The pressure-activated microsyringe is equipped with a fine-bore exit needle and a wide variety of two- and three-dimensional patterns on which cells to be deposited can adhere. The system has been…
Characterization of tissue-engineered scaffolds microfabricated with PAM.
TLDR
An analysis of the measured data shows that the physical and mechanical properties of the scaffold depend on its geometry and line width, both of which are easily modulated using PAM.
Generation of three-dimensional hepatocyte/gelatin structures with rapid prototyping system.
Using rapid prototyping technology, three-dimensional (3D) structures composed of hepatocytes and gelatin hydrogel have been formed. This technique employs a highly accurate 3D micropositioning
Innovative tissue engineering structures through advanced manufacturing technologies
TLDR
The two RP methods allow the fabrication of 3-D scaffolds with a controlled architecture, providing a powerful means to study cell response to an environment similar to that found in vivo.
PAM2 (piston assisted microsyringe): a new rapid prototyping technique for biofabrication of cell incorporated scaffolds.
TLDR
The working parameters of the piston-assisted microsyringe (PAM2) system were established to guarantee the realization of spatially controlled hydrogel scaffolds and the metabolic fingerprint of the cells is preserved with respect to controls and the cells are uniformly distributed through the gel scaffold.
A Study on the Fabrication of Various 3D Microstructures using Polymer Deposition System
Solid free-form fabrication (SFF) technology was developed to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds for tissue engineering (TE) applications. In this study, we developed a polymer deposition
Microfabrication for tissue engineering : rethinking the cells-on-a scaffold approach
A summary of results obtained using the PAM (pressure assisted microsyringe) technique for microfabrication of scaffolds for guided cell assembly is presented and discussed. The results of the
A phase diagram for microfabrication of geometrically controlled hydrogel scaffolds.
TLDR
Alginate hydrogels were modeled and characterized by measuring stress-strain and creep behavior as well as viscosity as a function of sodium alginate concentration, cross-linking time and calcium ion concentration, and microfabricated into scaffolds using the pressure-assisted microsyringe.

Survival and function of hepatocytes on a novel three-dimensional synthetic biodegradable polymer scaffold with an intrinsic network of channels.
TLDR
It is hypothesized that flow through directed channels will be necessary for the transfer of large masses of cells when implantation studies are initiated and flow conditions may provide a more conducive environment for HC metabolism and albumin synthesis than static conditions.
Laser-guided direct writing of living cells.
