Statistical entropy of near extremal fivebranes

- Physics
- 1996

Abstract The Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of near extremal fivebranes is calculated in terms of a gas of strings living on the fivebrane. These fivebranes can also be viewed as near extremal black… Expand

Microscopic derivation of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula for non-extremal black holes

- Physics

Abstract We derive the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula for four- and five-dimensional non-supersymmetric black holes (which include the Schwarzchild ones) by counting microscopic states. This is… Expand

We consider the entropy of a black hole which has zero area horizon. The microstates appear as monopole solutions of the effective theory on the corresponding brane configurations. The resulting… Expand

Entropy count for extremal three-dimensional black strings

- Physics

Abstract We compute the entropy of extremal black strings in three dimensions, using Strominger's approach to relate the Anti-de-Sitter near-horizon geometry and the conformal field theory at the… Expand

Statistical entropy of two-dimensional dilaton de Sitter space

- Physics

Abstract It has been proposed that a quantum group structure underlies de Sitter/conformal field theory duality. These ideas are used to give a microscopic operator counting interpretation for the… Expand

Exact microstate counting for dyonic black holes in AdS4

- Physics

Abstract We present a counting of microstates of a class of dyonic BPS black holes in AdS 4 which precisely reproduces their Bekenstein–Hawking entropy. The counting is performed in the dual boundary… Expand
