Abstract

Coated invaginations of the axolemma in myelinated axons of the sciatic nerve of young mice are described. Such invaginations occur preferentially in the area of the inner Schwann cell lip. It is suggested that they may be involved in the transport of metabolites between Schwann cell and axon.
