Para definir el concepto de micrometástasis se evaluó el tamaño de los depósitos metastásicos en el ganglio centinela. Así, fueron definidas como macrometástasis las lesiones > 2 mm y micrometástasis las metástasis < 2 mm, o grupo de células (10 a 30 células agrupadas) en el espacio subcapsular o interfolicular y finalmente células aisladas de melanoma (1 hasta 20 células individuales) en los senos subcapsulares2.
