Ghrelin has a regulatory role not only in the rewarding aspect for feeding but also in drug addiction by interaction with mesolimbic dopaminergic pathways in the brain. Previously it has been shown that systemic ghrelin enhances cocaine-induced hyper-locomotor activity.
