In this study, Agilent two-colour microarray-based gene expression profiling was used to detect differential gene expression in duodenal tissues collected from eight full-sib pairs of Sutai pigs differing in adhesion phenotype (sensitivity and resistance to Escherichia coli F18). Using a two-fold change minimum threshold, we found 18 genes that were differentially expressed (10 up-regulated and eight down-regulated) between the sensitive and resistant animal groups. Our gene ontology analysis…

Proteomic Analysis of Duodenal Tissue from Escherichia coli F18-Resistant and -Susceptible Weaned Piglets
TLDR
The expression levels of several important proteins including actin beta (ACTB), vinculin (VCL), heat stress proteins (HSPs) and transferrin (TF) in E. coli F18-resistant and -susceptible individuals were verified by Western blotting, supporting the identification of ACTB, VCL, HSPs and TF as promising candidate proteins for association with E.coli F18 susceptibility.
Analysis of Differential miRNA Expression in the Duodenum of Escherichia coli F18-Sensitive and -Resistant Weaned Piglets
TLDR
Gene ontology and pathway analysis of intersection genes showed that differentially expressed miRNAs were mainly involved in the immune response and transcriptional regulation.
Genetic Variations of TAP1 Gene Exon 3 Affects Gene Expression and Escherichia coli F18 Resistance in Piglets
TLDR
The research group identified Sutai pigs’ phenotypes that exhibited extreme resistance and susceptibility to the Escherichia coli F18 respectively, and evaluated the TAP1 mRNA expression levels among the different genotype pigs to study the effects of the genetic variation on gene expression, and the E. coli F 18 resistance.
Insight into the molecular mechanism of miR-192 regulating Escherichia coli resistance in piglets
TLDR
This study analyzed the relationship between level of miR-192 and degree of E. coli resistance using transcription activator-like effector nuclease (TALEN), in vitro bacterial adhesion assays, and target genes research to suggest that miR -192 and its key target genes (DLG5 and ALCAM) could have a key role in E. bacteria infection.
CD14 in the TLRs signaling pathway is associated with the resistance to E. coli F18 in Chinese domestic weaned piglets
TLDR
This study revealed the TLR signaling pathway, and especially CD14, probably plays an important role in resistance to E. coli F18 in Chinese domestic weaned piglets.
Differential expression of Toll-like receptor 4 signaling pathway genes in Escherichia coli F18-resistant and - sensitive Meishan piglets.
TLDR
Results confirm the involvement of the TLR4 signaling pathway in resistance to E. coli F18 in Meishan weaned piglets and suggest that the resistance appeared to be mediated via downregulation ofTLR4 and CD14, and upregulation of MyD88 that may promote the release of cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β, IFN-α and other inflammatory mediators which help to fight against E. bacteria.
Differential expression of Toll-like receptor 4 signaling pathway genes in Escherichia coli F 18-resistant and – sensitive Meishan piglets
TLDR
Results confirm the involvement of the TLR4 signaling pathway in resistance to E. coli F18 in Meishan weaned piglets and suggest that the resistance appeared to be mediated via downregulation ofTLR4 and CD14, and upregulation of MyD88 that may promote the release of cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β, IFN-α and other inflammatory mediators which help to fight against E. bacteria.
LBP gene methylation involved in mRNA expression and resistance to E. coli F18 in weaned piglets.
TLDR
The results indicated that the methylation of CpG-1 and C pG-2 sites in the LBP region is involved in the regulation of LBP expression, and may provide key contributions to resisting E. coli F18 in Sutai weaned piglets.
Differential expression of genes BPI, TAP1, SLA-1 and SLA-3 in Escherichia coli F18-resistant and sensitive Meishan post-weaning piglets
TLDR
It is speculated that BPI protein may have a direct killing effect on Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli F18 by regulation of the immune response, which is likely to be related to the upregulation of intestinal BPI.
Expression Level of FUT1 Gene in Different Pig Populations and its Relationship with ETEC F18 Resistance
TLDR
The results showed that FUT1 was expressed consistently in 11 tissues in the three populations, with relatively high level in the lungs, stomach and gastrointestinal tract, and the expression was highest in E. coli F18- resistant Sutai pigs, followed by Yorkshire and Meishan.

Polymorphisms of the FUT1 gene M307 locus in post-weaning Sutai breed piglet and resistance to F18 fimbrial Escherichia coli in vitro
TLDR
There appeared to be a direct relationship between polymorphisms of FUT1 gene M307 locus in post-weaning Sutai breed piglets and the resistance to pathogenic F18 fimbrial E.coli, which could be determined by adhesion and adhesion inhibition assays in vitro.
Research on the genetic variations of a1-fucosytransferase (FUT1) gene in 26 pig breeds.
TLDR
It was inferred that the resistance gene to ECF18 might be originated from western pig breeds, and of great importance for the conservation of Lingao pig breed as it is the only found Chinese native pig breed possessing resistance M307A allele in FUT1 gene.
[A molecular test for the detection of E. coli F18 receptors: a breakthrough in the struggle against edema disease and post-weaning diarrhea in swine].
TLDR
The FUT1 (M307) mutation is a good marker for selection of E.coli of F18 adhesion resistant animals and is found with variable frequencies in Duroc, Hampshire and Pietrain pigs as well.
Genome-scale analysis of in vivo spatiotemporal promoter activity in Caenorhabditis elegans
TLDR
Automated comparison and clustering of the obtained in vivo expression patterns show that genes coexpressed in space and time tend to belong to common functional categories, enabling prediction of anatomical and temporal interaction territories between protein partners.
Genetic variation at the alpha-1-fucosyltransferase (FUT1) gene in Asian wild boar and Chinese and Western commercial pig breeds.
TLDR
It was inferred that oedema and postweaning diarrhoea caused by ETEC F18 have close relationship with the growth rate, which can explain why on the contrary Chinese native pig breeds have stronger resistance to oedEMA and post-weaning diarrhea in piglets compared with western pig breeds.
Two α(1,2) fucosyltransferase genes on porcine Chromosome 6q11 are closely linked to the blood group inhibitor (S) and Escherichia coli F18 receptor (ECF18R) loci
TLDR
A high linkage disequilibrium of M307–ECF18R in Large White pigs makes the M307 mutation a good marker for marker-assisted selection of E. coli F18 adhesion-resistant animals in this breed.
Analysis of relative gene expression data using real-time quantitative PCR and the 2(-Delta Delta C(T)) Method.
TLDR
The 2(-Delta Delta C(T)) method is a convenient way to analyze the relative changes in gene expression from real-time quantitative PCR experiments and two variations of the method are presented that may be useful in the analysis of real- time, quantitative PCR data.

TLDR
Using in vitro brush border test, modulation of the adhesion of K88 fimbriae is observed and high and low affinity receptors are distinguished, suggesting that susceptibility/resistance phenotype could be related to iron metabolism in the intestinal tract.
